Melbourne’s inner west is packed to the brim with beautiful character dwellings, and this property is no exception. Boasting lots of original charm yet simultaneously oozing renovation potential, it presented a great opportunity for our clients to secure their slice of the market and craft their ideal family home.
Our objective for the renovation is to create a nice blend of old and new. Our clients want to ensure the outdoor living area is celebrated, with a subtle homage to modern Balinese design (that is, open plan living out to the outdoor area) that simultaneously stays respectful to the home’s Melburnian surroundings. To meet their requirements, we’re restoring the home’s character features while extending out to create a modern, open-plan living space.
To achieve the goal, we are undertaking cosmetic uplifts throughout the original part of the house to restore it to its former glory and pay homage to its heritage surroundings. We’re also implementing smart design solutions and keeping all the wet areas together to save on plumbing costs.
We’ve also designed an ultra-modern extension that contains the new master bedroom with ensuite, an open-plan kitchen/dining/living area and indoor-outdoor flow towards the revised alfresco area. Outside, there will be a new heated plunge pool that can be viewed from the living space.
Aesthetically, we’ll focus on muted materials and tones to create a tranquil and calm ambience. Our clients have opted for a neutral palette contrasted with dark accents, with additional colour to be added later through various furnishings, art and plants.
The initial stages of the project comprised 12 weeks on design and a further 34 weeks on council and approvals. We’ve just commenced the build, which will take between 26-40 weeks with a total budget of $636,500. We can’t wait to show you the finished product.
